We've officially relocated to our new house in the country! Moving Day was a success, and we finished in plenty of time for me to get a good start on my unpacking. I had several profound thoughts as I sat around watching the burly men transporting my boxes to and from the truck, so I thought I'd share them with you:
*It doesn't matter how much purging you do as you pack; you are always going to be amazed at how many boxes of stuff you have.
*You know you have good friends when they'll still speak to you even after you've asked them to move your refrigerator and washing machine.
*It doesn't matter how well the boxes are labeled; you will still have to open up several boxes before you find what you are looking for.
*If you are planning on staying at the new house the night after you move, you should bring EVERYTHING out of the old house. Even if you think that all you're leaving behind is a hamper of dirty clothes, you never know if you might have told your husband earlier that the hamper would be a great place to throw your makeup bag. If this happens to you, you might have to skip Sunday school the next day (and waste gas) driving back to your old house the next morning so that you will have your deodorant and makeup.
*Even rational husbands freak out the first time you put a pushpin in the pristine walls of a new house.
*When you live in the city, you may be stuck with roaches in your house even if you are a good housekeeper. This is because roaches have come to dominate certain neighborhoods and are more powerful than any human deterrent. When you move to the country, you will not be escaping the bugs. You will have crickets and ants all over the place.
*If you have ants in your new home, you should be careful when you sit on the floor of your closet to organize your shoe rack. The ants might crawl up in your shorts and bite you on the legs.
*The night of a move, you'll sleep the sweetest sleep of your life.
Thanks to our friends John and Karen, Sheldon and Jill, Brandy, Adam, Alan, Dad Watson, and Rickey for helping out! We'll owe you forever!

I bet you're all unpacked by now, huh? I knew you were an overachiever type.
I am unpacking decorations. Almost done!
Oh, yeah. I forgot my most valuable lesson learned: Never label a box "stuff" or "crap." Even if that is how you feel about the contents, it is an unhelpful label and quite unmotivating during the unpacking process.
